Peter Mutafchiev graduated from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Sofia in 1988. The same year he started to work at the BDZ Factory for Brake Equipment, where he gradually took the positions of Technologist, Deputy Director and Director. Since 1991 he has been Municipal Advisor and Chairman of the Municipality Council in the city of Parvomay. In 1997 he was elected for Member of the 38th National Assembly. Within the 39th National Assembly he was: member of the Regional Policy and Local Self- Government Committee, Vice- chairman of the Transport and Telecommunications Committee and Chairman of the Group for Friendship with Jordan. During the period 1997-1999 he has been Vice –chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Regional Council – Plovdiv Region. In 2005 he became Minister of Transport of the Republic of Bulgaria.
