International Championship of Young Mathematicians

Between 5Th of July, 2015 and 12th of July, 2015 at Todor Kableshkov University of Transport was held the Seventh edition of the International Championship of Young Mathematicians. The event was under the patronage of Mrs Tsetska Tsacheva – chairwoman of the Parliament of Republic of Bulgaria and co-organized by Todor Kableshkov University of Transport and the Alliance of Mathematicians in Republic of Bulgaria.
The international Championship of Young Mathematicians is a team competition where students from high school from all over the world take participation. The main objective of the championship is to make students interested in mathematics and to develop their scientific thinking. In contrast to the International Olympiad in Mathematics, the tasks were public a few months before the beginning of the championship and consist of parts that are not familiar even to the authors. During the competition every team had to present their results in a discussion with a reporter, a reviewer and an observer.
The championship has been organized since 2009 and its host countries have been France, Romania, Germany and Belarus. Bulgarian students successfully have taken part in the competition since its foundation and in 2013 our students won first place and in 2014 – third place. This year 130 students from Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Egypt, France, Gruzia, Germany, Romania and Russia took participation.
The international championship of Young Mathematicians was welcomed by Prof. Petar Kolev, DSc – rector of Todor Kableshkov University of Transport and the vice-rector in Education – Assoc. prof. Rumen Uluchev, PhD. In his greetings, the rector mentioned to the students that Todor Kableshov University of Transport is one of the leading technical universities in Bulgaria as many of the students that have graduated the university are highly qualified in transport.
He wished to the young scientists to achieve high results in mathematics, to be healthy, lucky and to make their dreams come true. The rector also made a short presentation of the country and university which was full of nice photos from Bulgaria.
