Initiative of the Association of the Bulgarian Railway Model Makers

On 20 February 2010 the Association of Railway Model Makers (ARMM) announced that it had completed the first stage of its activity organized in the premises of Laboratory Complex in Railway Operation at the University of Transport. The main aim was to accomplish preparatory and redecoration works in the complex. The young enthusiasts from the association demonstrated their ambition to turn that part of university premises into a place for developing and dissemination of ideas related to railway model making; establishing contacts with similar associations in the country and abroad; expanding the knowledge and skills of both ARMM members and the University of Transport students as well as of all who are interested in this field. The association has a lot of original and creative ideas involved in the next stage of its program: to set in operation half of the built-up railway route including new tracks with stations and signalling; visualization of the tracks – landscape and infrastructure; developing models of Bulgarian stations; lighting of models; demonstrations to children, students and adults in the field of model making, publishing a magazine of 64 pages entitled Railway Model Making; development and maintenance of the association website.

The event was attended by H.E. Stefano Benazzo, Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Bulgaria. He was invited as a special guest because of his interest and activities as a railway model maker. Among the other visitors were representatives of the National Railway Administration Agency, Prof. DSc Piter Kolev, Rector of the Transport University, employees of railway companies.

One of the models which most impressed the attendees was the model of the station of Kazanlak. It was not only by its design, but also for the visual and noise effects.
