Second Work Meeting on FP7 project U-stir

On 4 May 2010 the Todor Kableshkov University of Transport in Sofia organized and hosted the Second Work Meeting on FP7 project “User Driven Stimulation of Radical New Technological Steps in Surface Transport)”/U-STIR/. The topic of the meeting was “Fostering innovations in Railway Transport”. The event was opened by Assoc. Prof. Nelly Stoytcheva responsible for the activities of the University of Transport as a subcontractor. She underlined the significance of innovations as a base for connecting business, science and governmental policy in the field of railway transport. On behalf of Prof. DSc Piter Kolev, Rector, the participants were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr Rumen Uluchev, Vice-Rector of the University of Transport. His presentation showed the historical development and specificity of research activities at the university. The following presentations were made and discussed on during the workshop:

- Presentation of the FP7 project U-STIR and è “White Paper on Foresight Activities in Surface Transport in Europe” developed as a project deliverable;
- Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP);
- Surface transport as a priority of the FP7 of the EC;
- Innovation environment in transport of Bulgaria;
- SCADA system of control in the underground of Sofia;
- Innovation technologies for recycling ballast and building materials waste;
- Innovation monitoring on railway vehicles with implemented devices for diagnostics and testing;
- Scientific complex “Information Systems of High Responsibility in railway transport”.

The discussions focused the participants’ opinions on the idea that it is necessary to provide a profound governmental policy for innovations in Bulgaria.
