Prof. Boris Levin, DSc – Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Transport

Prof. Boris Levin, DSc and Prof. Alexander Vygnanov, PhD respectively Rector and Vice-Rector of the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering were on official visit to the University of Transport from 2 to 4 June, 2010. The reason for their visit was the awarding of Prof. Levin with the honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa for his contribution to the development of the transport and higher education and for expanding the cooperation between the Todor Kableshkov University of Transport and Moscow State University of Railway Engineering.

Prof. Boris Levin, DSc is an outstanding scientist and researcher in the field of railway transport, creator of leading, international and scientific school. He graduated from the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering in 1973 and started his career as engineer at the Department of Automatic Control System. Since 1977 he has been responsible for the postgraduate studies at the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. Under his initiative in 1989 is created Industry Training Center for Scientific and Pedagogical Staff. Since 1991 he has been Rector of the Institute of Advance Training of Managers and Specialists in the Railway Transport. In 1995, under his management the Institute has been transformed into Russian Academy for Railway Transport. In 1997 he was elected for Rector of the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering.

Prof. Boris Levin is the first to formulate a comprehensive concept for the transport development in Russia. He has created new professional fields related to the management of the Social and Technical Systems, Human Resources and Transport Manufacturing. He is initiator of many contemporary approaches in the organization of the research activities in the Transport Universities in Russia. Prof. Levin is author of more than 200 scientific papers and has supervised dozens of doctors and doctors of sciences. In 2002 he has been awarded with the title Honored Worker of Higher Education in Russian Federation and in 2003 with the title Laureate of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of science and engineering. Evidence for his overall scientific and pedagogical work are the numerous memberships in prestigious local and international organizations and forums.

The collaboration between the Todor Kableshkov University of Transport and Moscow State University dates back from 1985 and is based on contracts with impressive results. It includes implementation of internships, exchange of curriculums and syllabus, delegation visits aiming closer collaboration in terms of academic and educational activity, carrying out joint research projects and forums. The formal meeting of the Academic Council for awarding the honorably degree was attended by representatives from the Russian Embassy in Bulgaria – Mr. Victor Metyolkin, First Secretary and Mr. Sergey Foshkin, Advisor. After the ceremony, there was a meeting of the Russian guests with Bulgarian graduates from the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. During the meeting Prof. Alexander Vygnanov, PhD was awarded with an Honorable Sign for his significant contribution to the development of transport higher education and expanding the academic collaboration between Todor Kableshkov University of Transport and Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. The Russian guests gave honorary diplomas and badges to all graduates. Academician Sgurev, Chairman of the Federation of the Scientific and Technical Union in Bulgaria awarded Prof. Levin with an Honorary Sign.
