Our Students Visited Thessaloniki Port Again

VTUVTU VTU On March 12, 2013 our students from MSc Programme in Building Structures, as well as PhD students, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Chavdar Kolev, visited Thessaloniki Port in order to carry out their practice in “Port Construction” there. Thessaloniki Port is the nearest seaport to Sofia and has successful development despite the economic crisis. The hosts made a presentation about the port, focused on the prospects and problems of the transport connections with Bulgaria and Europe along the transport corridors. There were analyzed the “bottleneck” points in the operation of the transport infrastructure in our country and Greece. Many technical and economic issues regarding the port development and its hinterland were discussed. Experts from the Port Management showed the students all operating facilities and explained the organization and technology of the transfer and transport processes, carried out there. The container terminal, as well as the quays for bulk cargo, refrigerated warehouses, specialized transport mechanization for containers and the railway scheme of the connections with the central station provoked the greatest interest. The interest in the restored and turned into attractions old warehouses and mechanization by which the port authorities achieve daily contact and interaction with the citizens and urban environment was justified.
